Health, Wealth and Happiness Connection
Recently, during one of his weekly live calls, Kyle Cease shared a story about a client who was stressing over her anticipated inability to pay her rent that would be due in several weeks. Her mind was obviously focused on the future. In the present moment, rent was not due yet and she had a placed to live. To her happy surprise and relief, money just appeared magically out of nowhere and it was enough to pay her rent that was due in the upcoming weeks. However, soon after that realization had come and gone, she was back to her worry and stressed over what would happen if she could not pay for the following month’s rent. There seemed to be no peace to be had.
This illustrates clearly what many of us do to ourselves unconsciously. We seem to be addicted to worry and fear. Our inability to stay present is the cause of most of our mental burdens.
Much of the personal growth literature and new age thought authors have emphasized the importance of understanding that the more we embrace worry and fear and whatever else negative, the more we get of that in our lives. We need to focus, think and feel the things we prefer so that we can attract more of what we want and not more of what we don’t want.
No one wants to be perpetually unhappy or in pain. No one wants to feel impoverished in any way. The majority of people just aren’t aware of the tools that are available that we can implement every day and by using them consistently over time, change is always inevitable. We just have to be patient and understand that any time we make even the tiniest of a change, the outcome will always change. Always.
Health, wealth and happiness. Do they really have a connection? Is there an underlying secret to these 3 conditions which we all desire in life? And, if they are indeed linked to one another, how are they related? The answer is yes, they are related, and the mind holds the precious key to living what most would consider a successful life. The secret is that when health, prosperity and bliss are approached internally, your life will embody all 3.
Is this doable? Yes. Is it simple? Yes. Is it easy? No. No, it is not easy, but it is achievable if you stick to tried and true methods on altering the mindset.
Health is energy. “Bad and good” health are just different energy frequencies and the same pertains to our level of happiness and wealth. We are what we think about. We become what we continue to think about most. Since thought is movement and science tells us that movement is energetic vibration, what is manifested in our external environment represents the ideals, beliefs, dreams, wishes and desires we hold most persistently in the mind. Remember that what we hold in the mind, we end up holding in the hand.
Much of what we find in current research and literature today was known back in the day. For example, check out the following passage from As a Man Thinketh (1903) in the chapter on Effect of Thought on Health and the Body by James Allen:
“The body is the servant of the mind. It obeys the operations of the mind, whether they be deliberately chosen or automatically expressed. At the bidding of unlawful thoughts the body sinks rapidly into disease and decay; at the command of glad and beautiful thoughts it becomes clothed with youthfulness and beauty.
Disease and health, like circumstances, are rooted in thought. Sickly thoughts will express themselves through a sickly body. Thoughts of fear have been known to kill a man as speedily as a bullet, and they are continually killing thousands of people just as surely though less rapidly. The people who live in fear of disease are the people who get it. Anxiety quickly demoralizes the whole body and lays it open to the entrance of disease; while impure thoughts, even if not physically indulged, will soon shatter the nervous system.”
Now, consider the following passage taken from the chapter on Effect of Thought on Circumstances:
“A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put in it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.
Thought and character are one, and as character can only manifest and discover itself through environment and circumstance, the outer conditions of a person’s life will always be found to be harmoniously related to his inner state.”
The same phenomenon holds true whether we are talking about our health status, our finances or how happy we are.
Whenever I’ve talk to healthy individuals, they always tell me that they don’t dwell on sickness. I’ve interviewed many who never get as much as a cold. Many don’t report even experiencing seasonal allergies. The ones that do get a cold now and then maintain that they just focus on having a strong belief regarding positive outcomes and emphasize their thoughts on healing and resilience, rather than complain about how poorly they feel.
I have discovered over the years in speaking to many people who are “chronically ill” that although outwardly they seek help from healthcare professionals, there is an ingrained belief imbedded deep within the subconscious mind that they will never get better, or that they will likely get worse over time or perhaps they don’t deserve to feel better, even though they are currently treated with medication. Most of the time these negative beliefs stem from old traumas and wounds that haven’t healed.
Through direct observation from working with clients and patients, I have found that if you know how to approach any of the 3, whether it be your level of health, finances or happiness, with mindset shift techniques, they will be effective for the other 2. Today, more than ever, these methods are based on a stronger foundation of scientific research and consequently discussed, written about, and taught by many personal growth or self-development instructors and mentors.
You are only as happy as you think you are.
You are only as financially secure as you think you are.
You are only as healthy as you think you are.
When I work with clients whose goal is just to feel happier in life as they have everything else, they have shared that the most challenging exercise to practice daily is to journal what they are grateful for and feel truly happy about them. Some have told me that there would be no problem for them to be happy if only they could be sure that nothing would change, while for others it was only if something specific would change. Happiness for these individuals seemed to be dependent on some external condition, yet happiness, like everything else, is always, always, an inside job.
Clients who claim they are chronically ill but say they desire a cure will inevitably tell me that it is almost if not totally impossible to “think” perfect health when they “feel” sick all the time. These individuals just couldn’t get past the 5 senses telling them their current situation. They allowed their 5 senses to convince them that however horribly they were feeling now would carry on into the future. Yet, some with whom I worked closely, changed their health in incredible ways. I found that those who not only “believed” they could get better but also “deserved” to get better, got better.
If you believe you can change, that things can change for you, they will. It is all a matter of perception. If you consistently program into the subconscious mind that you are already fit, vibrant, strong and in superb health, in time, the body inevitably follows — the body is the faithful servant of the mind. The body has no way of telling the difference between something that is true or imagined in the mind.
The reason why most people tend to give up is because they expect to get better in the time frame they have established. That is not how the universal laws work. The law of gender or gestation, as it is called, states that once the seed of desire is planted, the time of germination is determined by nature. Just like the teacher appears when the student is ready and not a minute before, well, the desire is manifested when the universe sees that you are ready to receive and decides that you have taken certain actions to provide the appropriate environment for your wish to be fulfilled.
Whenever you find yourself giving up and asking when it is going to happen for you or when are you going to get this or that or feel better, it is like you just planted the seed and you continue to dig it up out of the soil to check for roots.
Some simple tools my clients and patients have begun with are detailed as follows:
1) Begin journaling 8 to 10 things (or more) you are grateful for. They could be things in the present time or something in the future that you can imagine has arrived already and you are feeling immensely thankful. Gratitude very quickly switches any feeling of lack and limitation to abundance. Your spirits begin to lift.
2) Practice being in the present moment and take notice of the space you are in and around you. There are many ways you can do this. I just ask myself, “Self, do you notice the space right now? What can you tell me about the space? What do you see around you? What are you doing right now in this space? Do you remember what you are grateful for? Do you remember all the positive things that happened?” Focusing on “the space” brings the mind into the present. Whenever your attention is geared towards the present moment, peace, joy and happiness come through you and that is what you feel. It is our memory combined with the egoic mind and the old mindset programs (paradigms) that send our attention to the past or future, bringing us feelings of dread, regret, disappointment, sadness, anxiety, worry, fear, and frustration.
3) At least 2 to 3 times a day for 10 to 20 minutes, sit comfortably, breathe deeply in and out for 7 seconds each time, 3 cycles minimum and then close your eyes and purposefully relax each part of the body with deliberate focus from the top of the head all the way down to the toes. Concentrate on loosening up the muscles, tension and pressure throughout. Meridian meditative points can also be combined here. Suggestions are accepted in the subconscious mind much more readily when the body and mind are relaxed. Once the body is relaxed, visualize with significant emotions, images of how you would look, feel, and what you see yourself doing if you were at your best health, highest level of bliss and living freely and abundantly with complete peace of mind. Remember that safety and security never come from anything external like your job, business, or how much money you have in your possession. All that can always be taken away. If you can generate a sense of security within you at all times as safety and security can only be attained inside, in the mind, it can never be taken away.
4) Throughout the day, repeat your gratitudes, verbally make affirmation statements that describe your new self-image of who you need to become to have your goals and desires fulfilled. Remember that your desired change can never be permanent if your inner image stays the same old self. Through our natural cybernetics system, self-regulatory mechanisms will bring us back to where we started like a thermostat resetting.
5) Despite your current circumstances, if you feel poorly, acknowledge and accept it as the present reality caused by actions, thoughts and decisions made in the past. Then, begin feeling immensely grateful and thanking the universe for the arrival of perfect health, all healed, all cured and mention all the things you are able to do now. This is the most challenging because it is hard to pretend, visualize, and say you are where you want to be when you are currently not. But remember, you are painting new pictures and writing new stories of what you want, not painting old pictures and writing old stories of what you don’t want. Whatever you think, whatever you say, you are going to get more of that. This is vitally important to remember. This also pertains to if your goal is to feel happier, then picture yourself looking happy and seeing yourself doing all these different things and saying how grateful you are; or, if you are currently not where you would like to be financially, visualize everything you see yourself doing and all the people you are helping with increased finances and start saying how grateful you are, etc.
6) Lastly, remember to be aware that a balance exists. There will be days when you do feel genuinely exhausted, and it feels like a fight to do the above exercises. Be aware and acknowledge it, accept it, and surrender to it by sitting in meditation. Sitting still allows the mind and body to connect and communicate. This gives whatever it is an opportunity to be released. Listening in silence allows the universe or higher intelligence to guide us through our higher faculty of intuition or gut instinct which can provide us with the solutions we are looking for that we cannot find when we are struggling to work through it. Things tend to come to us easily when we are relaxed mentally and physically.
Try diligently doing the exercises above for 30 to 60 days and see what unfolds for you. Obviously, the longer you stay with it, the better the outcome. I always remember the saying that as long as something works for one person, then the method works.
