Thinking into Health and Wellness
Last week I wrote about the importance of changing the internal image of ourselves to facilitate healing. The ability to do so requires that we access a set of what they call higher “mental faculties.” These consist of our abilities beyond the 5 primitive bodily senses, such as our ability to see, hear, taste, touch and smell. Our mental faculties are defined as perception, memory, intuition, imagination, reason and will power.
Nature’s animals and other creatures lack these higher functions and so we observe them blending in with their environment. On the other hand, we are able to create any environment we wish, which can be a double-edged sword; this ability can either permit us to live harmoniously or hinder us in confusion, depending on whether we are in alignment with our purpose and the nature of our preprogrammed mindset or paradigms. It is believed that we are all unique and have a higher purpose to be of service to others.
An ever increasing amount of information is now being made available and known regarding the tremendous influence our mind has over everything in our lives, from our financial situation to our health to our happiness. In the classic “As a Man Thinketh” by James Allen, there is a chapter dedicated to the effect of our thoughts on our health and body. Allen writes,
“The body is the servant of the mind. It obeys the operations of the mind, whether they be deliberately chosen or automatically expressed. At the bidding of unlawful thoughts the body sinks rapidly into disease…at the command of…beautiful thoughts it becomes clothed with youthfulness and beauty….The people who live in fear of disease are the people who get it. Anxiety quickly demoralizes the whole body, and lays it open to the entrance of disease…Change of diet will not help a man who will not change his thoughts. When a man makes his thoughts pure, he no longer desires impure food.”
There is much literature that contains evidence of individuals whose real life examples have illustrated that we see with our mind, not our eyes, and this is true for the other 4 senses, as well. Information is picked up from the external organs and then is presented to the mind for recognition and then an image is formed. Author Napoleon Hill writes about his son being born without any auditory apparatus on one side of his head. Using mindset techniques, he and his wife were able to facilitate their son’s ability to hear out of the side that had no way to hear.
For those who understand intimately, the power of the mind and our power to think, the above example would never be casually labeled as a miracle. The more I research the subject of the mind, the more I realize that there are no such things as luck or coincidences. Everything we get in life, everything that happens to us, for us, or through us, all follow very orderly and specific laws of Nature (or God); and from what I’ve studied, whether we know about, understand, or believe these laws to exist, is apparently inconsequential. They are always in operation with or without our blessings.
For those interested in reading more about the above-mentioned laws, I recommend checking out Raymond Holliwell’s “Working With the Law.”
So, whenever we come across individuals who seem to flow through life as if they were flying on a magic carpet or had Aladdin’s lamp, they are merely consciously or unconsciously following and working with all of Nature’s Laws. I found this to be absolutely mind-blowing and that much of the studies were done in the early 1900’s, if not before. Although I have always known how important what we think about is, I never realized the extent of the consequences our mind and its thoughts have on everything, including our ability to thrive.
More than ever, I diligently practice my gratitudes not only in the mornings and evenings, but also throughout the day. It is written that mind is movement. Thought is movement and has an energetic frequency. Emotions are how we are interpreting the vibrational signature of each thought. Whatever thoughts are entertained in the mind are transferred into the body as vibrational frequency, which will bring about wellness or sickness.
What an eye-opener. I wish these things were taught in school. This is yet another subject that I never learned in med school. Crafting and designing the life we wish to live was never easier. In fact, it is just a thought away.
Meditation and Relaxation
1) Find a quiet place to sit up comfortably and close your eyes gently. Breathe in slowly through the nose or through pursed lips and follow the breath all the way down into the belly (5-7 seconds). Exhaled slowly through pursed lips (5-7 seconds). Repeat 2-3 more times.
2) Begin forming intentional statement-questions to use with the Meridian points (feel free to choose your own)
—Why does my body only respond to positive thoughts that I didn’t notice before?
—Why are all my thoughts about my well being that I didn’t notice before?
—Why am I able to release all thoughts that no longer serve me that I didn’t notice before?
—Why am I able to allow strength to be in my body that I didn’t notice before?
—Why is my will power strongly in my favor that I didn’t notice before?
—Why is my perception strongly in my favor that I didn’t notice before?
—Why is my intuition strongly in my favor that I didn’t notice before?
—Why is my memory strongly in my favor that I didn’t notice before?
—Why is my imagination strongly in my favor that I didn’t notice before?
—Why is my reasoning strongly in my favor that I didn’t notice before?
3) Meridian points to access using repetitive finger tip pressure or tapping (feel free to choose your own)
—Chest points
—Hand blade points
—Brow points
—Corners of eyes
—Under the eyes
—Under the nose above the upper lip
—Under the lower lip at the dip
—Chest points
4) Conclude with breathing exercises from 1) and if you feel called to do so, sit further in meditation for 20 to 30 minutes more. An hour a day minimum is highly recommended to allow for enough time for the mind and body to release the “trash.”
5) Remember to take out a piece of paper or your journal and list 8 to 10 things you feel grateful for and take at last 30 to 60 seconds to anchor emotion into them. This method powers up the gratitudes and shifts your mental and physical moods rapidly. Remember what your mind says, your body does without question.
