Yeah, But’s And The Courage To Honor Our Truest Calling
As many of you know, I recently launched my new YouTube Channel tutorial on using energy medicine tools, such as Meridian meditation therapy, to help us with life’s ups and downs including feeling better about our mind and body despite our health issues. This channel almost didn’t come to fruition. In fact, I entertained this project as far back as 3 years ago, but it remained just a seed in the back pocket patiently waiting to be planted down into fertile soil until now.
The idea came to me when different patients were asking me the same questions about the Meridian access points, the words I used, the perfect time to do it, how fast, how slow, etc. And I thought,
“What if I could just film this and have them all watch it at their leisure?”
Then, their questions could be addressed all at once. I even held classes on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings but not everyone was able to make it. So, the same issue remained. How was I to get the word out to more people? Quite a few people suggested I start a YouTube video series. I felt excited about the idea. After all, it would certainly reach all my patients as I could tell them they could tune in whenever. I soon realized that executing that idea was more challenging than I thought. The mental chatter descended upon me.
First, I had to get through the hurdle of the mental chatter of the egoic mind. I have frequently referred to it as the bodyguard. It’s job is to protect me, keep me safe and to be suspicious of all change because change is unknown and could be dangerous. Then, there is the self preservation mechanism where if I did take a leap into the unknown and change, even for the better, and if that “better” future could not be seen, would that then mean death to the bodyguard ego? So, for the last several years, the dialogue went like this,
“It would be such a great idea to start a YouTube channel.”
“Yeah, but you don’t fit the profile to do YouTube.”
“I sure could effectively reach a lot more people.”
“Yeah, but who would watch it? No one would watch it.”
“Well, at least those patients who are interested will watch it.”
“Yeah, but they probably won’t. They probably don’t do YouTube.”
“I could still try and see what happens.”
“Yeah, but it would be embarrassing. You don’t know enough about YouTube.”
“Well, I see other people doing it.”
“Yeah, but you are not other people. They are experts. You need time to learn first.”
“I could just try one first and see. No harm in that.”
“Yeah, but you need the right equipment, lighting, and people to help you. You should wait.”
“Oh, I guess you’re right. I’ll take some time to read more about it and look into the right equipment and set up. I’ll do more research first.”
Fast forward 3 years later (probably more by now) and I found myself having the same conversation with the one and only lovely ego. This time, about a couple of months ago, a patient expressed delight that I incorporated healing methods into the traditional practice. She went on further and told me that many folks could benefit from such knowledge and skill. She also said that approaching this one-on-one during each patient visit was a slow way to spread something so beneficial. And, that was when she said,
“You know, have you ever thought about doing a YouTube channel so that more people can have access to your work?”
I remember smiling politely, feeling my heart beat faster, feeling excited to hear yet again someone new after all these years, interested in this idea that became a tiny particle of my memory’s imagination. That old feeling of giddiness came on board and rose to the surface. Then, I felt my heart really pound, half out of excitement of the possibility revisited and half out of sheer fright. The “yeah, but’s” were clamoring on, coming out of the woodwork once again to scold me, how dare I even ignore their warning after so many years! Seriously, you guys?!
After going home, I called my family and told them what this patient said to me. I said to them that I thought it was a sign — a second one. Actually, maybe it was the third or fourth or fifth. I lost count. I had many patients on different occasions telling me before to make recordings of the Meridian meditation classes. I ended up having them all bring their iphones to record the sessions and then they could play them when they got home. They also asked me to record my guided meditative words during the one-on-one Meridian treatment visits. Again, I just told them to bring their iphones in and I would hit the record button.
I was just not comfortable in my own skin. Why is that? Don’t know. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. But, I’m the only one I know intimately. I’m still not as courageous as I’d like to be, but I mustered up some bravery, stepped out of the comfort zone and made a scary leap, against the egoic bodyguard’s advice. I remembered the screams,
“Oh no! Death to the ego, death, death, death to me!”
“Oh, dear God. Stop being so melodramatic. We did it and we are both still alive. I can’t believe I listened to you all these years.”
Yes, the leap. There was a thought process behind that, too. I almost didn’t start it this time either. After my cousin fear visited me yet again, my family said that they had already been through this with me back then and like back then, they will tell me again now to just bite the nervous bullet and do it because what is the worst thing that could happen? Worse case scenario — no viewers. I will still survive.
I still held off. I could feel the slow cold crawl of not enough-ness making its way through every cell of my body. Oooh, the imposter syndrome joined in with the echoes of who was I to even consider doing a YouTube channel tutorial? And yet, the project resonated with me as it always had. There remained a deep sense of restlessness, a mixture of excitement and sheer fright.
Then, I heard one sentence that clicked loudly. It was something Kyle Cease (Comedy Central comedian turned personal growth author and speaker) said during one of the live conference calls,
“What if that one thing you’ve been putting off is that very thing you have to do to move through your stuck-ness?”
And then, I remembered something he had talked about in the past and again a few months ago about his clients waiting for a sign before they took the infamous leap and asking him how they would know when the sign had arrived. He would then say that the fact that you had the idea in your head was “the sign.”
So, one afternoon I came home, set down my bags, changed into comfortable clothes, sat on the chair and closed my eyes in silence. I felt a message come through,
“Honor your truth. Honor your calling. It is a disservice and betrayal to self to not do what your heart tells you. Fear is your ability to see only what you will lose but it will never show you all that you will gain that is even better than anything you could ever imagine.”
I propped up the iphone, hit record and just started talking, sharing what was in my heart at that moment. That was all. For just that present moment, I had lost all fear. It didn’t matter if anyone would see it. I did it anyway. I did it because I had something to say. I had something to share. I did it to honor my truth.
When you sit in silence today, ask yourself if there has been something you’ve always wanted to do or try or travel to? Take a little time today to reflect upon anything you once thought about doing or even more recently but decided it was best to place it in the back burner. Write that down in your journal. Remember that the worse case scenario is that it doesn’t work. But, you would’ve learned something for the next step. But, what if it did work? What if the universe sensed your willingness, your courage, and granted you a way, an opportunity for this path to appear? What if this was the spark your life had been waiting for all this time? Life is way too short to not bring what is collecting dust in the back into the light. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain. Remember,
“Live each day as if it were your last.”
“Live a life with no regrets.”
“Better to reminisce than to regret.”
Meditation and Relaxation (Diagram included below)
1) Find a place and sit comfortably. Close your eyes and access the chest points on both sides with both sets of fingers and beginning tapping gently while taking a slow inhale through your nose or pursed lips (taking 5-7 seconds), then hold it for 3 seconds, and then exhale slowly through the mouth as a sigh into the exhale or through pursed lips (taking 5-7 seconds), then hold it for 3 seconds. Repeat 2 more times. Note that if you only have time for this, then I recommend doing this throughout the day, about 5 minutes each time as a form of breathing exercise to reset your mind and body. Once you get used to this routine you will develop a habit of doing this even when you are patiently waiting in the check out line. Trust me, it will make the line go much faster!
2) Access with gentle tapping motions the brow Meridian endpoints where the eyebrow begins with both sets of fingers while saying the words — Relax, Release, Letting go (for a total of 3 times)
3) Access the Meridian points at both corners of the eyes avoiding the soft temple and tap gently with the finger tips while saying the words — Relax, Release, Letting go (for a total of 3 times)
4) Access the Meridian points under both eyes at the upper cheek bones with both sets of fingers tapping lightly while saying the words — Relax, Release, Letting go (for a total of 3 times)
5) Return to both chest points tapping gently with finger tips while saying the following:
—Why am I worth honoring, no matter what is happening?
—Why is my heart’s passion worth listening to, no matter what is happening?
—Why am I meant to succeed, no matter what is happening?
—Why do I have so much support around me, no matter what is happening?
—Why does my life flow with so much ease, no matter what is happening?
—Why am I worth it, no matter what is happening?
—Why am I so very important, no matter what is happening?
—Why do I need to honor my heart, no matter what is happening?
—Why do I need to honor my soul, my spirit, no matter what is happening?
—Why am I more than enough, no matter what is happening?
—Why is my life so full, no matter what is happening?
—Why do I have permission to love myself, no matter what is happening?
(Feel free to repeat the above as many times as it calls to you)
6) Continue accessing the chest points or move the fingers to a different point of your choosing and repeat the breathing exercises in 1)
7) Depending on the time of day, you can either continue getting ready for the day or just head off to sleep if you’re doing this before bedtime.
8) Remember to journal your gratitudes, your discoveries and whatever ideas or thoughts have come into your awareness as you make Meridian meditation a daily ritual.
