Synchronicity
During the past several months, I have been thinking about all the people with whom we interact day to day, the events that we experience, the emotions we express, the actions we take and don’t take — everything, and I came to the firm realization recently that not one thing that comes into our lives or anything we put out into the universe is by chance. There is no such thing as luck or coincidence. Everything that happens for us, with us, or through us does so by design at all times, not sometimes, but at all times.
I read about and study personal development, mindfulness, and our role in this universe everyday, because I just love learning about the meaning of my existence and what exactly is this life for which I am showing up everyday. I have talked about purpose in previous blogs because it is one of the things that became significant in my thoughts during times I felt my life had no direction and that I felt I was plugged into some system and operating like a drone. I felt as if I was doing things for someone or something else’s agenda and not my own. So, that’s when I started asking myself if whatever I was doing to fill my 24 hours consisted of things I actually wanted to do. Was I happy doing them? Life on earth is just way too short to do the things I don’t want to do.
I don’t believe in looking for purpose. I believe that purpose finds us and flows through us. The key is to meditate daily and allow ourselves to surrender to the present moment and allow knowledge of our purpose to come through us. Our responsibility to ourselves is to make sure that we do what calls to our passion everyday. Whatever we do everyday should give us immense enjoyment. Nothing should be a chore. If we find ourselves dreading our daily activities, that is a sign to make a change. Throughout the day, I make it a point to check in with myself to make sure my thoughts are about things I want and not about the things I don’t want or the things that I fear may happen.
I’ve also observed that many times the clients operate their lives everyday on the basis of what others want them to do, be and feel. Recently, a woman discussed with me her desire to lose weight. I asked her how much. She said she didn’t know and then she looked over at her husband and asked him what he thought. Then, I started explaining to her that whatever she wanted to change had to be something she wanted and the importance of changing the image she had of herself.
It is well known that the reason why people don’t keep the weight off for the long haul is that we all have an internal regulating system that brings us back to our preset goal if it senses that the number is off. The mechanism is similar to a thermostat. Once the ideal temperature is set, if the temperature is hotter or colder than the set point, either AC or the heater will come on to bring the temperature back to its set point. So, an integral part of complete healing has to do with consciously altering the internal set point. This applies to all types of illnesses and diseases, as well as all aspects of our daily living, i.e. levels of wealth and happiness.
Plastic surgeon Dr. Maxwell Maltz, who wrote Psycho-Cybernetics, observed that when physical scars and deformities were surgically corrected, some patients changed their personalities significantly while others remained unchanged, which led him to conclude that we all have an internal and external image of ourselves. Unless the internal image was addressed, nothing about the body or attitude would undergo transformation.
I am now very much aware that whatever we want or don’t want will show up with equal certainty and inevitably in our lives. I really make sure these days that what I hold in my mind is worthy of my day. There is a saying that whatever we fear or revere will make its way into our physical reality. I recently read that our subconscious mind is like a farmer’s fertile soil and that one can plant down deadly nightshade and just a few inches away sweet corn and both will grow and flourish equally well.
Everyday, I experience clients who allow the feelings of their current circumstances dictate and determine whether or not they are having a good or bad day. What’s worse is that they drag their present circumstances and give them permission to enter their future space. So, the prognosis is limited to the negative spectrum at best. Wellness and complete healing have to be allowed in the mind as a possibility, then a probability, and then a certainty before we can step into a health that thrives.
Through years of observing my patients and clients, I have noticed that regardless of whether or not they were dealing with a mental or a bodily illness, the difficulty in focusing their attention to wellness was the same. They hated the symptoms of disease more than they loved wellness and health. As a result, they allowed the disease to overcome any hope or desire for healing and a cure.
I recently heard a speaker say that the world is plastic to our thinking and that what we see, hear, smell, touch and taste with our 5 senses create an illusion of reality and this includes our disease states. According to specific laws of nature, if we allow our mind to hold consistently an image of seeing ourselves strong, fit and thriving, the body eventually follows without question. The key is to not allow our feelings of the present situation affect us.
Those who understand this phenomenon and act on it by shifting their focused attention on complete healing instead of the symptoms of disease and harnessing their energy, found themselves free of disease over time. Of course, we call these miracle healings, but are they really? Whatever we label as a miracle diminishes the validity of the method used. When our mind is in harmony with this illusion, the symptoms of illness persist. I found this theory tremendously interesting.
There are many times when the first step is to ask clients to permit the disease and its symptoms to be in the body so that they are not in resistance. If the symptoms are severe, they find it very challenging to do so. They tell me that after so many years of seemingly relinquishing control to their body, the last thing they want is to purposefully give permission to the body to be ok with the disease. Consequently, in these cases, I simply go directly to teaching them how to use autosuggestions and mindset reprogramming to begin changing their health status by giving them back control of their body using the mind.
It is said that there is a law of thinking in this universe that is never random but quite orderly. There is a science behind this law (Raymond Holliwell) that states that whatever we create in the mind we attract on the outside and that includes the body. All actions come from our thoughts bringing about emotions within us, which then create our physical reality. We attract only what we think or create in the mind because thought is movement and has a vibrational frequency. When left to its own devices, our mind always contains random thinking activity and without focused internal direction, the outside world expresses a chaotic feel. Whenever we are able to direct our power of thinking then we are exercising authentic thinking, which is not the same as random mind activity.
With the above in mind, we now know that everything we have in our lives, everything that finds us, everything that happens, and everything we encounter, we have attracted either deliberately or randomly, consciously or unconsciously. Either way, there is no such thing as coincidences. There are only synchronicities. The other day, I listened to a story Michael Beckwith relayed about the early days of Agape when he remembered driving to and from his congregation.
He talked about becoming curious about a homeless man who always stayed at this corner and how he became focused on wondering what would cause someone to be homeless. Within a few weeks, the IRS came after him and he almost lost his home. He realized that life was showing him how someone could become homeless like the man he was thinking about. As a result, he simply gave blessings to the man and shifted his thoughts. Within weeks, the IRS contacted him and told him they made an error and that all was well. It is said that wherever our thoughts go, energy flows. So, we need to get into the habit of keeping thoughts that are worthy of us, not the other way around. As Earl Nightingale reminds us, the strangest secret is that we tend to become what we think about most.
Meditation and relaxation
1) List 8 to 10 things you are grateful for if you haven’t done so already. Spend a few minutes with each one and really feel them to anchor emotion to them. Remember that gratitudes have the power to completely shift us from the negative to the positive immediately. Try to do this in the morning as soon as wake up and also before bedtime if possible.
2) Find a quiet place and sit up comfortably. Close your eyes gently and breathe in through the nose or purse lips and follow the breath down to the belly (5-7 seconds) and then exhale through the mouth (5-7 seconds). Repeat 2-3 more times or more if desired.
3) Meridian points to access for today (using repetitive pressure of the finger tips or tapping)
—Chest point, one or both sides
—Blade of hand, one hand or alternate between the 2
—Brow point, one or both sides
—Corner of eye, one or both sides
—Below the eye at the cheek bones, one or both sides
—Under the nose
—Under the lower lip at the dip
—Top of the head
—Side of body at rib cage, one or both sides
—Chest point, one or both sides
4) Intentional Statement-Questions to use with above Meridian points
—Why do I have so many things I’m grateful for that I didn’t notice before?
—Why is my life so incredible that I didn’t notice before?
—Why am I always in the right place at the right time that I didn’t notice before?
—Why are there so many synchronicities in my life that I didn’t notice before?
—Why is God (or Universal energy) always conspiring to gift me with positive things that I didn’t notice before?
—Why am I so happy and grateful for everything that I didn’t notice before?
—Why do I feel so energetic everyday that I didn’t notice before?
—Why do I feel so fit and vibrant that I didn’t notice before?
—Why am I in perfect health that I didn’t notice before?
—Why are extraordinary things happening in my life right now that I didn’t notice before?
5) Conclude with breathing exercises from 2) above, and feel free to sit quietly in continued reflection and contemplation for 15 to 20 minutes more if it calls to you.
6) If you haven’t written down your 8 to 10 gratitudes, do so now. Remember to spend a few minutes with each one and really feel them. By switching the negative to the positive, our stress hormone cortisol will decrease, which removes inflammation and subsequent disease from the body. I read that even boredom causes cortisol to rise.
