Inside Job
I wanted to open up this blog with a passage that popped up for me written by Jeff Foster.
“If you’re not grateful for what you have, you’ll never be happy with what you get. You’ll always feel like you don’t have enough. You’ll regret the past, because you could have ‘done more’. And you’ll be anxious about the future, because you could ‘miss out’ on riches. Find gratitude for the smallest things — the morning sun, a sip of water, your old shoes — and happiness is yours, no matter what you get or what you lose.”
I must have come across messages like this over and over again from all the different personal growth and development authors and teachers. Even I know the tremendous importance of gratitude as a lifeline to a life well-lived, thriving life, and I have shared it with everyone I have come into contact with. Gratitude is so important and cannot be mentioned or reminded enough times.
In one of God’s (Universal, Nature’s) laws, the law of supply, it is written that the universal supply is limitless and if we understand our role as a spiritual creative being living in a physical body, being blessed with powers that allow us to expand and further express ourselves continuously throughout our human life time, then understanding that expressing gratitude gets us closer to our source of supply is not rocket science.
For many of us, it is so much easier to be and feel grateful when things appear to be going well in our lives. Of course, “going well” would be a subjective reference to what our 5 senses tell us. However, when we learn to understand how the mind really works, where our higher mental faculties, such as perception fit into all of it along with the universal laws of vibration and attraction, we can begin to control what we think about.
To feel gratitude when we have to rise above whatever may be considered as negative in the present moment is a challenge to most. It takes a considerable amount of insight and focus to understand that if we cannot completely be in gratitude right now no matter what is going on, then even if that goal we wanted is now in our hands, we would soon forget the notoriety and move on to the next goal. I’ve always believed that goals are not things to have, but from which to grow. They give us a sense of direction to travel.
Learning to feel gratitude right now no matter what is going on at the present time effectively removes the cage of dependency on external factors. It prevents us from conditional thinking, in which we give away our power to outside circumstances.
“I’ll be grateful when…” or “I’ll be happy if…”
Nothing’s bad, nothing’s good. It is just the way we think it. Wayne Dyer reminds us that if we change the way we look at something, whatever we look at changes.
Controlling what we think about is a necessary skill to live life on our own terms. It is an integral tool to modify our self image, attitude, behavior and subsequent action we take in navigating the direction our life takes. Accessing higher levels of conscious awareness allows us to tap into universal higher intelligence and to be able to practice gratituding even when we may be experiencing what we are labeling as unpleasant current circumstances.
Through repetition, discipline, will, persistence, patience and faith, regarding forming and sustaining only thoughts that serve us, any aspect of our life can change dramatically and permanently. Remember that thoughts form beliefs and so limiting thoughts create limiting beliefs. And, if our old programming includes limiting beliefs already, this only adds to the detriment.
Thankfully, we must be grateful that our life is always an inside job. Any change is an inside job and never depends on anyone or anything outside of us. Remember that wherever our life is right now, whatever we have in terms of our health, finances or happiness levels, all that can be leveled up when we understand that mind and thought involve movement. Movement involves waveforms which imply there is a vibrational frequency inherent with each type of thought. Whatever we consistently and repeatedly think about, we feel and become that.
If we keep thinking about negative things, lack and limitation, all the things we think we can’t do, that we don’t have, that we don’t feel in this moment, we will most certainly get more of all of that. This is part of Universal law. Shifting the tone and focusing on being grateful for what we do have, what is good about our life, all the good that is coming or has arrived will send out a vibrational frequency in harmony with what we are trying to attract to us. It is as simple as that. The reason why more people aren’t practicing these methods is that there is a general disbelief and lack of faith in things we cannot see, which are part of our old collection of mindset programming of habitual behaviors or what is referred to as paradigms.
Understand that both faith and fear depend on believing an invisible target, so I always ask my clients, “Why not choose faith?”
My offer to you is that if there are certain things you wish to improve in life, choose something that you feel may be a lighter one to work with and begin to focus your thoughts throughout the day on reaching your goal. Whenever you receive thoughts on the contrary, course-correct. The mind cannot entertain both a positive and a negative polarity item. The default setting is always negative.
Take a few minutes in the morning and at bedtime after journaling your gratitudes to write out and think about your goal project. Be sure to anchor intense emotion as you visualize feeling and seeing in your mind’s eye that your project has been fulfilled and your goal achieved. This could be a health, financial, material or a relationship goal.
Remember that for us to experience change of any kind, it always has to begin from the inside and never let your current circumstances determine your future outcome. They only represent all the thoughts and decisions that occurred before this moment. Form different thoughts and a different outcome will manifest.
