The Power of Mental Faculties
They say that nature’s creatures appear to be at home in their environment and that they rather blend in; but, humans can create their own surroundings and so chaos, disorientation, and confusion ensue if we are ambiguous with our intentions. Science teaches us about the typical 5 senses — to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch. However, we were never taught the importance of what makes humans different from all the other animals out there. And, that is our power of having mental faculties, which are our ability to use perception, memory, reason, imagination, intuition and will.
The Laws of Vibration and Attraction are probably 2 of the most familiar universal laws passed around in conversations, but not everyone really understands how powerful these laws really are when we study and use them in our everyday lives. Many people are familiar with the Law of Attraction via Rhonda Byrnes’ movie and book The Secret.
Every thought in the mind contains energy. It vibrates with frequency and travels. Science has recorded the speed of thought to be somewhere around 935,000 times faster than the speed of light. Negative thoughts vibrate with a different waveform signature than positive thoughts. Kirlian photography captures changes in our energy fields as our emotions change. Thoughts cause emotions. If thought energy could be captured by this specific type of photography, then the types of thoughts we have minute by minute, second by second, do have significant implications of widespread effect on our wellbeing.
Because it is known that we get what we think about most and we become what we think about most, we also must remember that what we love is ours, and what we hate is also ours. The subconscious mind is called the emotional mind and cannot reject any idea put into it that is anchored with intense emotion. It accepts all without prejudice. The emotional mind is also called the universal mind.
We attract what we are in harmonious vibration with. This is the basis of the connection between the 2 laws, of attraction and vibration. Whatever thoughts or ideas we invest time and emotion into create the dominant vibration which then draws to us that very thing or outcome. So, if all we’re thinking about is what we are scare of, or worried, angry, and irritated about, then we are in essence, inviting all those elements into our lives. If we keep talking about how we hate sickness, we get more of that. If we keep talking about how awesome it is to feel so strong and vibrant, we get more of that.
Before I blame the world for negative things that are happening to me, I now check in with myself and ask what am I thinking about that attracted this to me? I also ask myself if there is a valuable lesson here. Having this attitude allows me to stay in control of the situation. I now have created space to respond to the situation rather than react to it. Then, I refer back to my journal of gratitudes and the content of my daily visioneering and imagineering work. Over time, I began to realize the importance of really thinking clearly through my goals that I feel will help me grow, goals that help me live on purpose and know that the universe will go about making them happen in the most peculiar and at times, illogical, unconventional and inconvenient ways.
Remembering that nothing is ever good or bad but that everything just is, keeps the peace in the mind and removes unnecessary emotions that clutter, preventing us from making clear decisions. If we find ourselves gravitating towards harboring negative feelings about some event or outcome, it may be more helpful to change that to curiosity instead. Trying to discover why something happened frequently leads us to insight that we otherwise would miss out. This may present us with the key to the next step we could take.
There really is no easy way to not let our emotions depend on the quality of our present circumstances, other than to practice the higher mental faculties we have. They are the only ones that can override the primitive 5 senses with which we use to judge the world around us and ourselves. What we see and feel about our lives in the present state are due to all the decisions and events that occurred prior to now.
If we are aiming for a different outcome, we have to keep our focus on thoughts that we truly want and to act as though everything is already happening right now. Sometimes it isn’t so much as wishing for a specific material item or situation; it is more about how they would make us feel. The secret is to feel that feeling right now. Our feelings are nothing more than our interpretation of the vibrational frequencies generated by certain thoughts.
I frequently instruct my clients that if they can take just a few minutes to practice everyday, multiple times a day, focusing their will and imagination on just thinking and saying the things they want to happen or how they want to feel and then keeping their spirits positive by altering their perception of what they encounter in their present circumstances, and then reasoning it out that by keeping gratitudes in their mind, they will with certainty, generate consistent vibrational frequencies that are in harmony with what they seek. Eventually, what they seek for their highest good will find their way to them. What we seek is also seeking us.
Every time I catch myself drifting off to some negative or fearful thought, I assess the thought to see if it is true in the present moment or if it is related to the future which hasn’t happened yet. Then, I begin my gratitudes with everything I’m grateful for now and in the future to immediately shift the mindset, and my vibrational frequency. The universe doesn’t know how to reason things out. It only knows to serve you what you are vibrating in the mind and whatever you are vibrating comes from the thoughts you are having. Change them or you will get them.
I also remember that whatever I have labeled as a negative event, I have to ask myself if the ultimate outcome serves me in what I hope to see as my idea of living on purpose. I check the list of things I wish for when I do my imagination work. If the event is on that list in some form, then it stands to reason that the other things on my list will also happen. Keep in mind that the universe does not do things in the order you wrote them. Is doing any of this easy? No, it isn’t.
The challenge is the egoic chatter which comes from the preprogrammed mindset of habitual behaviors also called paradigms. Paradigms keep us in fear, doubt and worry. However, by increasing our understanding through studying and practicing these methods, we become more skilled in navigating our life’s journey. It does not remove our fear but it is less. It allows us to choose faith over fear, since both require that we believe in something that we cannot see in the future.
So, out of the 6 mental faculties available, you can choose one to study and work on by incorporating that in your daily life that week or month and then move on to a different one. You will find that the life as you know it will begin to change in the most beautiful way as you discover your authentic self, and become who you really are, not who your friends and family think you are, or want you to be, but who you really are.
Knowing what your own likes and dislikes are, and what you really want in and for your life help you immensely in navigating your daily direction. Most importantly, you begin to live life on your own terms, not your friend’s, your partner’s, or your parent’s. And then, you begin to live on purpose when it finds you through your increased awareness of what is the authentic you in every present moment.
A really relevant question I have been asked by clients is whether or not they can still live life on their own terms if they choose not to ever ask themselves what they want but continue on doing what they’ve always done, even if their existence is just to please others around them as they’ve always done and known only that. My answer is easy. The choice to remain status quo is still a valid choice. The explanation I offer is that to truly live life on our own terms does require that we have to be true to ourselves. Our purpose, vision and goals are intimately intertwined with the true core of who we are.
According to author Thomas Troward, our mind is a center of Divine operation and that the Divine operation is always about continued expansion and fuller expression, which means that something never before seen is always trying to come into physical reality for us. We are all meant to unfold and develop our unique signature of existence, which does not include doing the bidding for others especially if it goes against the very nature of who we are.
So, keep practicing the above principles. I can’t wait for the magic that will unfold for each of you in the weeks, months and years to come.
