Freedom
For some years now, I try to make time to learn something new, either through study or listening to podcasts when available. A few days ago, I came upon this podcast on personal development in which the interviewer asked the question,
“What would you love in your life? And, if your wishes were fulfilled, how would you feel?”
Only one answer came to me. Just one word. Freedom.
It was a lesson on the laws of Nature, along with the laws of attraction and vibration. Frustration, anger, fear and sadness place our energy field in a state of lack and limitation. Thomas Troward, English author of the New Thought Movement, refers to the mind as the center of Divine operation. If we are of the Divine and we are creative beings, then we are free to express what we are passionate about and create the life we wish to experience.
However, there is a balance between doing and being, and finding the right balance can be a challenge. Most of us spend our entire lifetime being busy doing or just busy being busy and appearing like we are doing a lot, but in reality, not really going anywhere other than around and around within our comfort zone.
Freedom means different things to different people. There is mental freedom and there is physical freedom and all the rest in between. What does freedom mean to you? Take a moment and reflect upon this.
Do you yearn for health freedom, to be able to physically remain active without pain? How about time freedom, to be able to drop whatever you’re doing at any given moment and travel abroad simply because you felt like it? What about emotional freedom, to be free of worries and fears? Or, do your thoughts drift off to financial freedom, when you’re about to turn in for the evening?
To desire freedom is fundamental in our nature. The thought came to me that in its purest form, all the soul wants is to be free. It does not concern itself only with materials or other physical types of wants.
Last week, I discussed with a friend about increasing my level of conscious awareness. I felt that if I could somehow ascend higher, I could serve more people in a higher capacity and that I would feel a higher level of freedom. I also wondered if my old programming or paradigms was so deeply imbedded in the past that it was interfering with my ability to shift to a higher potential. I told her that I needed to do more inner work to find out more about who I really am. Then, I would be prepared to receive my purpose coming through me.
I was obviously frustrated. She reminded me to go back and read this one section of The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, that discussed avoiding concentrated study of the past and that just exercising presence would allow me to work on the past paradigms through a series of triggers that would undoubtedly arise. Our triggers represent unresolved past events or conflicts that keep us stuck and prevent us from moving forward.
Then, over the weekend, I tuned into the weekly Sunday Oneness meditation call with Kyle Cease, on which he said that sometimes when we let go of what we think is holding us back to embark on a new activity that seems to help us grow and we don’t notice that our life is better, it is because we still have a magnet inside that continues to attract the past to us and that we never fully let go of who we were.
He goes on further and states that sometimes it is just a matter of sitting in quiet meditation that eventually brings the answers we are waiting for. Too often, the “doer” within us is actively searching for solutions limited by our present reality rather than just giving ourselves permission to “just be.” Mark Romero, whose guitar music contains healing frequencies, reminds us constantly that we are human “beings” not human “doings.”
Michael Beckwith (Agape Spiritual Center) shares the following:
“When you expand your awareness, you begin to see signs everywhere. You begin to notice serendipity and spontaneous goodness. You begin to have a sacred view of Reality.”
For instance, your attention is suddenly drawn to a piece of paper someone walking by drops on the floor and it happens to contain information that you needed for the past few weeks. Or, someone at the store accidentally bumps into you and causes you to look up at some magazines on the top shelf that give you the ideas that will now help you finally complete your project.
Such opportunities almost sound like magic and it does seem as if these individuals have a magic wand, but the fact is, we all have the potential to live a life blessed with serendipitous events. These events are happening all around us at all times, but the catch is that we have raise our awareness to notice them.
Let’s say your assignment is to go out now and count how many blue cars you will find in the next hour. All of a sudden, you are going to see more blue cars than you’ve even seen the day before. It’s increased awareness.
I have received questions from clients in the last couple weeks about when to take action and when to let go. The goals are varied with some individuals looking to improve their health status, others wanting to just feel happier, while still some are hoping for new relationships, work environments, and so on.
In previous blogs, I have detailed using Meridian Meditation techniques combined with intentional statement-questions to release stuck energy and allow for flow to be re-established. Accessing our mental faculties according to Raymond Holliwell (Working with the Law) enables us to continuously expand ourselves to fuller expression in our lives by acting and operating within the laws of Nature.
Maxwell Maltz and Joseph Murphy write about techniques navigating through our subconscious mind, whether we are referring to our self-image or holding on firmly to thoughts about how we want to feel, be and live. And, of course, Neville Goddard lectured and authored many books on the powerful use of emotions anchoring our wishes we want fulfilled in order to produce a desired life.
The premise that who we are determines how we behave motivates personal development instructors to use the above techniques to change our old programming so that we become different people with a new self-image and therefore behave differently. Joe Dispenza uses image changes to help individuals with chronic diseases heal completely by accepting a new healthy image and neglecting the old sick one.
What they all also strongly advocate is quality time spent in quiet meditation to reflect and allow us to reconnect with the present moment, to learn to appreciate the importance of presence and to facilitate the release of our old stories.
Freedom is to be able to live life on our own terms. It is to be able to live a life of abundance in health, prosperity and happiness. Freedom is having a feeling of security and peace of mind. All of this arises from within us, never without. Nothing outside of us can ever give us peace of mind because someone or something else can take that away and we are left with nothing. Feeling safe and secure has to come from inside of us or you will lose. It is also about how we choose to see ourselves and the world we live in and knowing we always have a choice to exercise gratitude. Everything we need for our freedom is already here.
So, what I offer you is this — when you sit in meditation today, find a quiet place and sit comfortably. Breathe in through your nose and out also through your nose, taking about 7 seconds to do each. Repeat 2 more times. Then, relax your body beginning with the top of the head and make your way down to the toes. Then, ask yourself the following questions:
1) “If I had no responsibilities or obligations at all, what would I do, where would I go right this moment?” Now, imagine that you are there, doing it all. Really feel all of it. Really experience it by using your gift of imagination.
2) “If I could start my life over, what would I do without hesitation?” Now, again, imagine that you are doing whatever it is you want to do. Anchor the feeling into your experience with your powerful imagination.
I suggest spending 3 to 5 minutes doing each exercise. Practice these throughout the day by setting an alarm if you can. Or, commit to these exercises at least twice a day, once when you wake up in the morning and lastly when you are ready for bed. These are the best times to deep dive into your subconscious mind.
(Clients of mine are able to do this automatically as a habit throughout the day without setting alarms. Turning these exercises into a habit took the majority of them about 2 months, give or take. They have reported feeling happier, more peaceful, and less stressed.)
