Grateful and Satisfied
For as long as I can remember, my parents used to tell us that we should always be grateful and satisfied with what we have. It seemed as if my brother and I were always asking for more, always wanting more. The lesson felt reasonable and appropriate. After all, they were constantly putting the fear of God into us, warning us that if we didn’t show appreciation and but continued to ask for more, we would receive nothing in the future and what we had would be taken away.
You can imagine my surprise when recently I was enlightened that contrary to what I was told to believe, God (Universe) actually supported continuous expansion and fuller expression of ourselves every moment of everyday. Through studying the laws of nature (Working with the Law by Raymond Holliwell), I felt as if I was suddenly given permission to grow and the validation that all those years I secretly yearned for more were not behaviors about which I should feel guilty. I felt free for the first time.
We are here to find out who we really are. We are here to discover our authentic selves. We are here to grow our souls in this earth school (Seat of the Soul by Gary Zukav). Without knowing what each of us is all about, what we really want out of this life, what calls to us, what draws our heart’s passion, we will remain confused and conflicted in the dark. We all have a purpose. It is not something we chase or get. We live on purpose when the realization flows through us and then we get this sense of knowing.
I do believe that all of us are here ultimately to serve a higher good, to help others around us because helping others is helping ourselves if we are indeed of the belief that we are “one.” Whenever we are told that the world mirrors who we are, the only way that is true is that there is really no separation, there is no “us” and “them.” And, the fact that we can control our thoughts and therefore our vibrational frequencies, indicate that we operate within the natural law of vibration and therefore consequently the law of attraction. We draw to us what we are in harmony with.
Holliwell’s description of the Law of Supply indicates that there is no lack or limitation for any of us. The universe is limitless. Whenever there is a demand, the supply is there, made available without effort. No one individual has the upper hand in life that another does not. It is interesting that many of us believe that others possess skills and abilities that we do not and that we automatically accept the idea that success is natural for them but not for us. There is no basis for this assumption. If the mind controls everything, our thoughts produce actions through emotions and behaviors and the ability of the mind to create a thought does not depend on present circumstances.
Holliwell goes on to explain that wanting is not a crime. In fact, wanting a lot is encouraged. Wanting more in order to empower us to be of greater service to others is rewarded and this action allows us to grow. Wanting things for the sake of loving only the material things is discouraged as this encourages the false belief of ownership and we own nothing in this life. Everything is borrowed if we think about it. When our biologic body returns to the soil, we cannot take anything of the material world with us.
As a child with natural wants, I was not allowed to explore the possibilities of deeper meanings behind these wants. I don’t blame my parents. They operated at the level of consciousness they were at and never elevated beyond the third density of awareness. They did the best that they could. I understand that now.
Until the last several months, I was still operating on the premise that all goals and expectations were to be released. Then, through my studies, I gave myself permission to set higher goals, to establish challenges and that it was ok to set forth intentions for an even better life. The adults in my life when I was a child used to say that wishing for prosperity, health and happiness was inappropriate and that we get what we get according to whether or not we were deserving and best not to complain. My dad painted God (Universe) as harsh and judgmental, but now I realized that once we understand the Universal laws that Holliwell describes, and we conduct our lives as best we can living by these laws, we begin to live on purpose with ease, and health, wealth and happiness simply flow.
A goal is not about acquiring for the purpose of getting, but about growing and improving ourselves so that we can be even better equipped to be of utmost service to others. Things we ask for, whether they be material or for our wellbeing are meant to contribute to our ability to be of assistance to others. They are not things we just want for the sake of increasing our possessions. Karmically, this has a boomerang effect and our life becomes one giant struggle. The universe supports our highest expansion and growth so that we can all thrive in a more harmonious environment. This is the true purpose of the human existence.
Everyday I see clients who say they want to feel better, be rid of their illnesses and so on. However, they act as if they don’t mean or deserve it. At the end, after trying a new way of thinking for a short time, the give up, saying that they can’t change the mind to heal themselves, never giving themselves the awareness that all this means is that they return to the misery with which they came to me. With time, without any attempt to change the mindset, the body disintegrates. I often remind them that whether they do anything new or not, time will still pass and their body will not stand still. It will progress into the dis-ease state further. This is the natural order of things.
Perhaps we have been brainwashed to accept our status in life. Most of the people I encounter possess a high level of fear about becoming older and sicker that both conditions go hand in hand. Fear for any reason stems from ignorance and education removes ignorance and restores faith. This could not be further from the truth if we learn and behave according to nature’s laws. I used to call favorable outcomes I didn’t understand “miracles” and “lucky events,” but labeling them as such did not do them justice. Everyone needs to remember that we all have the same potential, the same incredible power to be, feel or have whatever we truly desire with expectations.
This universal truth can be witnessed and proven by simply teaching individuals to change and hold an image of themselves as they want to become, act as though they are that image and support and reinforce that image daily through techniques utilizing constant repetition, gratituding, emotional visualization, and our higher mental faculties (perception, intuition, memory, reason, imagination, will) in incorporating the laws of nature (God, Universe) into our everyday lives. (Working with the Law by Raymond Holliwell).
Over the last few months, I learned to practice being happy and grateful for all things in the present moment but to avoid being satisfied. I realized that being grateful was not synonymous with being satisfied. Feeling the high emotions of gratitude lifts us to higher levels of conscious awareness but satisfaction leads us down the path back to the comfort zone, devoid of growth, which God (Universe) frowns upon. All of us, regardless of our origin or present circumstances, are always meant for continued expansion and fuller expression of ourselves beyond where we are at any given moment.
Whenever there are times I feel as if I am at a lower level of emotion and energy, I remember to list everything I am grateful for without comparing myself to others. I also find that feeling grateful for the sake of feeling grateful is quite powerful. Most of the time, I get into the habit of reminding myself repeatedly that I am spirit and light, made in the image of the Creator (God, Universe), and that I have the power to desire, create, and envision the life I wish to live to serve others better and that God (Universe) always has my back.
What I hold in my head, I hold in my hand.
Both faith and fear require that I believe in the invisible future. I choose faith.
Now, when I set goals, I only work on projects that I’m passionate about and that have the potential to help many others. I remember to focus on feeling grateful for everything in the present moment and then to remember that if the goal I set does not come to fruition, it is because the universe has something more appropriate for me.
Grateful always lead to growth. Satisfaction leads to eventual disintegration.
Meditation and Relaxation
1) Find a quiet place to sit up comfortably. Close your eyes gently and take a slow deep breath in through the nose or through pursed lips, following the breath all the way down to the belly (5-7 seconds) and then exhale slowly (5-7 seconds). Repeat 2 or more times.
2) Meridian points to access (feel free to personalize the experience and choose your own)
—Chest point, one or both sides
—Blade of hand, one or alternate between both hands
—Brow point, one or both sides
—Corner of eye, one or both sides
—Under the eye, one or both sides
—Under the nose
—Under the lower lip at the dip
—Chest point, one or both sides
3) Intentional Statement-Questions to use with the Meridian points
—How have I been able to use my self image to elevate my wellbeing that I didn’t notice before?
—How have I been able to use my sense of perception to elevate my wellbeing that I didn’t notice before?
—How have I been able to use my will power to elevate my wellbeing that I didn’t notice before?
—How have I been able to use my memory to elevate my wellbeing that I didn’t notice before?
—How have I been able to use my intuition to elevate my wellbeing that I didn’t notice before?
—How have I been able to use my imagination to elevate my wellbeing that I didn’t notice before?
—How have I been able to use the power of reason to elevate my wellbeing that I didn’t notice before?
4) Conclude with breathing exercises from 1). You can choose to continue to sit quietly in reflection and contemplation for another 20 minutes or longer. Remember to do your gratitudes in the morning and before bedtime. Throughout the day, gratitudes can help you quickly shift the mind from worry to peace simply by understanding the science of polarity. Every negative has a positive counterpart. Also, the mind can only entertain one end of the spectrum, so you have the option of choosing positive.
